Vaporizer Mouthpiece: Plastic V Glass, What Should You Pick?
One of the most important parts of a vaporizer is the mouthpiece, it going to see the most use and without it you simply can’t vape. The mouthpiece, above all other components is where you want quality; you’re going to be sticking it in your mouth after all!
Mouthpieces come in all manner of sizes and lengths to suit any need, but the two main categories: Glass and plastic. Choosing the right mouthpiece for you is important, and can make the difference between a good vape experience, and a great vape experience! So here is the definitive advantages and disadvantages of every conceivable type of vaporizer mouthpiece!
Glass or Plastic?
The two most common materials that vaporizer mouthpieces are constructed out of are either glass, or plastic. Before you decide on what type you prefer it’s important that you choose quality, a good quality mouthpiece in either material will give you a great vape experience.
Plastic Vaporizer Mouthpiece
Plastic mouthpieces are incredibly durable, especially over the long term. If you’re carrying your vape with you when you’re out and about that is definitely going to result in some stress to your mouthpiece. Should you drop your unit (worst case scenario but the risk is real) a plastic mouthpiece is more likely to stand up to the challenge. Also regular long term wear and tear will hardly phase a plastic mouthpiece. Generally plastic mouthpieces are made out of polycarbonate plastic, which has a level of flex built in to prevent shattering!
Plastic mouthpieces also tend to be cheaper than their glass and metal counterparts, so if you’re if you foresee yourself replacing your mouthpiece regularly, then go plastic.
The downside is that some users report a plastic taste to their vapour when they use one of these mouthpieces, this is usually the result of scrimping on quality, but it can happen even with expensive mouthpieces. This could be the plastic reacting with the vapor (don’t worry it won’t harm you!) or it could be psychosomatic! Which is fine, if the ‘feel’ is wrong then plastic mouth pieces aren’t for you!
Overtime your mouthpiece will build up a layer of resin and grime, this seems to adhere more to plastic so you will find yourself cleaning it a little more often.
Glass Vaporizer Mouthpiece
Glass will never react with the vapor, it’s as simple as that, it won't compromise the flavour of your herb. If you’re mainly concerned with enjoying the quality of your vape experience then glass is the way to go. You will also enjoy a superior level of filtration from a glass mouthpiece that will pull out any harmful toxins from your vape.
The payoff for this quality is of course the fragility of a glass mouthpiece. It won’t be a portable as its plastic counterparts simply because it isn’t as tanky when it comes to the rigors of daily life. If you should drop it, then nine times out of ten you’ll be kissing it goodbye!
Glass tends to stay cleaner for longer, resin has a harder time sticking to it and any sticky saliva buildup will simply wipe off. Of course eventually you will have to detach it and give it a proper clean, just be sure to treat it with care when you do!
Which Vaporizer Mouthpiece Is For You
Ultimately a quality vaporizer mouthpiece is going to give you a great vape experience and whether to go for glass or plastic is down to your personal preference. If you want to have a rugged vaporizer that you can bring anywhere without having to worry about it breaking, then plastic is for you. Its resilience combined with the relative cheapness of a replacement or spare make it perfect for when you’re out and about.
However if taste is king, then you want a glass mouthpiece. Nothing will give you a cleaner, clearer taste than glass. Just be careful with it!
How To Care For Your Vaporizer Mouthpiece
Whether glass or plastic it is very important that you clean your mouthpiece thoroughly. This will get rid of the inevitable build up of saliva, resin, and other particles that will hamper your vapor. There’s no real difference when it comes to cleaning either type of mouthpiece, you’ve just got to be thorough!
The best result is to first rinse your mouth piece with hot water, then place it in a container full of solution and let it stand. After a while you can take it out and carefully brush it all over, dislodging any stubborn resin. Give it another rinse, be thorough to ensure that there’s no solution left behind (you don’t want to taste that stuff… Trust us). Finally gently dry it with some kitchen roll, put it back into your vape and enjoy!
